In the Rapa Nui language, Takona means ‘body painting.’ This event takes place in Tahai, in the Ana Otai area (cave,) where a group of 4 people dressed in period clothing will take you on a journey back to the 17th century. An Ancestral Ceremony will be performed by a master of ceremonies and you will be able to witness a Hoko (native warrior dance.) You will also learn just how important the Takona is to the Rapa Nui culture. Then, you will get the Takona done on your face so that you’re able to soak up this whole experience. Later, there will be a small curanto (*a traditional meal cooked over hot stones in a hole in the ground) as a symbolic way to bless your stay on the island and your trip back home. You will get to take home with you a CD with pictures and a musical slide‑show of this entire experience.
