About 7 hours
Ideal for a short stay on the Island.
We will begin our day in the town of Hanga Roa; particularly, the Ceremonial Site of Tahai, where the tour guide will give you vast information on the 3 restored ahus. In Tahai you will find a coop and a wharf made completely out of stone and also the remains of a hare paenga, a type of house that resembles an overturned boat.
Then we will ascend the Rano Kau volcano. We will stop at the viewpoint, from where you will see a wonderful panoramic view. From this point it’s possible to see the entire town of Hanga Roa and its surroundings. On your way up, you will be given all the information needed so you can soak up the culture and history of the Birdman –Tangata Manu.
We will then visit the citadel of Orongo and will continue our excursion to the Rano Raraku area (moai quarry or ‘factory’), where we will get to admire all 397 moai, which are scattered all over the volcano in different stages of construction.
Then we will go to Tongariki, the last of the ahu to be restored and the largest one with its moai statues standing upright. We will have a snack at this place (1 half‑litre bottle of mineral water, 1 can of soft drink, 2 sandwiches, 1 hard‑boiled egg, 1 piece of fruit, 1 cereal bar, and a fun size bag of cookies.) Once we’re done, we will go to the Papa Vaka and Te Pito Kura sites, to then finish our day in Anakena, visiting the Nau Nau and Ature Huki Ahus, as well as enjoying Anakena’s warm and crystal waters. Return to the town of Hanga Roa.
